Snowboarding
was introduced to the Chicago Dirt Riders in the winter of 2004 by CDR-9 Alvin Ang who started snowboarding the year prior, before joining the group. His interest in the sport was purely incidental, because he just won a ski trip on a radio contest of  "Eric and Kathy's "funniest Super Bowl Commercial, and the rest is history. When you learned snowboarding, it becomes addicting and your outlook in life may change a bit. When the snow falls ,there is a big smile on your face.I think you needed it in a place like Chicago. The traffic could get bad to worst but you know that shredding is best when there is a fresh pow on the ground. The group had been to many ski resorts in the area, but nothing beats the snow in the west,I mean the Rockies in Colorado and Utah, the Mountain ranges of Wyoming and Montana and even Lake Tahoe. The enthusiasm of CDR-77 Troy Celemin when it comes to snowboarding is unparalleled. The most progressive and energetic member who could translate those energy to motocross and wake boarding as well. Give him a shout out if snowboarding is your line. The last trip the group had was in Aspen, unlike many of the other trips, this was special. A few of the members went there last Christmas....what can they say.We should hear their stories on our next article..
The Aspen Experience!

Currently, the snow is still falling, Snowboarding is ongoing and
just contact CDR-77 Troy Celemin if you feel like shredding or maybe
you want to try it for the first time.

Basic Tips

The most important thing you can do when you're just starting out with this, is to find a good, professional, certified instructor. A good way to find one is to visit a resort which offers good instruction. You can also check with the AASI (American Associate of Snowboard Instructors) who can guide you to a competent instructor.

Another thing you'll need to consider, is where to get your gear from, and what you should buy. If you're a beginner, then it's a good idea to rent your gear for a season before you part with too much cash. However, if you have a friend of relative who understands snowboarding better than you, they may be able to help you find everything you need.

If you really want to own your very own snowboarding gear straight away, then you should look for gear which is designed with the beginner in mind. A good brand to look out for is Burton. They have a great LTR (Learn To Ride) range of boards which are perfect if you're just starting out.

A good way to start practicing your snowboarding skills before you even leave the house, is to watch snowboarding videos online. Not only is it great motivation, but if you pay attention you will start to pick up some of the basic techniques. You can also find many "beginner videos" which show you the basics of turning, stopping, and more.

If you're serious about learning to snowboard, you can even invest in a online video coaching system. Although this option costs a few dollars, it's a great way to improve your technique and learn to master the tricks of the pros, and generally improve your confidence with snowboarding.
